The Loewe Luna Bag Deserves More Love

Named after its half-moon shape (Luna means moon in Spanish), the Loewe Luna Bag hit the scene last year for Spring/Summer 2022. Defined by its clean, curved lines, the Luna has quietly reinvented itself each season, remaining a staple amongst the brand’s impressive lineup. The Luna bag shines in its simplicity, with the easy silhouette allowing Loewe’s impressive attention to leathercraft to really shine through. Not only that, but the bag embodies that commitment to Loewe’s artisanal roots, just as the brand’s cornerstone designs do, like the Puzzle and the Flamenco, but it still seems to fly more under the radar.

Crescent-shaped bags have become increasingly popular over the last few years. In fact, in 2019, I mused that they weren’t getting enough love, but soon enough, the handbag Gods heard me and the shape became a hot trend, popping up in every major designer’s lineup — both luxury and contemporary. Vogue even dubbed the Fall of 2022 Moon-Bag season. This celestial shape is here to stay; truthfully, I’m not mad at it. Something about the shape feels unique and fresh, like an elevated hobo. It’s different yet wearable, unlike the angular geometric shapes we’re also seeing.

Luna Where Are You

Yet even still, the Loewe Luna seems to remain scarce. Though the Luna is a favorite of It-Girl, Emily Ratajkowski, we’ve yet to see this silhouette take off. Rarely does it show up in our Fashion Week roundups, and I don’t think we’ve ever caught one in our Bags in the Wild installments either…Luna, where are you hiding? I can’t even say with certainty that I’ve seen one IRL, and I see a lot, and I mean A LOT of bags living, working, and playing all around some of the most stylish New Yorkers in fashion and other creative industries.
