Kelly Osbourne's Airport Birkin: Genuine or Clever Fake?

Yesterday, a tip from a friend of the blog led us to photographs of Kelly Osbourne, a devoted handbag enthusiast and recent subject of our Many Bags series, arriving at Heathrow Airport. At first glance, she appeared to be carrying an Hermès Birkin that had been adorned with a variety of peculiar, somewhat risqué patches. While embellished Birkins are not unheard of, this particular execution seemed far from the polished artistry we've seen in recent years.

Just as we were preparing to voice our disapproval, we decided to take a closer look—and we're glad we did. Upon zooming in, it became clear that this was not a Birkin at all. Although it bore a striking resemblance to the iconic Hermès bag, complete with all the expected features, it was actually a far more affordable bag designed to mimic the classic. The after-market patches further obscured its true identity. Based on the embroidery details, it seems Kelly may have purchased the bag in this condition rather than customizing it herself, but we were unable to locate any similar Birkin-inspired bags with such embellishments. For that, we are somewhat relieved.
