Is the Louis Vuitton Onthego Worth Double Retail? A Resale Market Deep Dive

The Louis Vuitton Monogram Giant Collection had me at first sight. As a devoted Louis Vuitton enthusiast, this collection hit all the right notes for my love of bold logos. The Onthego tote, in particular, captured my heart, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since its release.

Why the Onthego Is a Standout

The Onthego is a generously sized tote, measuring 16.1 inches in length, 13.4 inches in height, and 7.5 inches in width. It easily accommodates a laptop, a book, a scarf, your wallet, sunglasses, and more. Concerned about weight? The coated canvas construction keeps it surprisingly light, even when fully packed—a hallmark of Louis Vuitton's practicality.

What draws me to the Onthego are its distinctive details. The oversized monogram is the obvious headliner, but the contrast of the mini monogram on the handles adds a subtle yet striking touch. This bag offers versatility with two sets of handles: rolled mini-mono handles for hand carrying and longer straps for shoulder or crossbody wear. Each panel features a different color, so the bag's appearance shifts depending on how you carry it. I'm particularly enamored with the khaki green/white/beige/cream combination, though the reverse monogram (which isn't currently listed on the US site) is equally tempting.

Despite my persistence, I was informed at every turn that the Onthego was completely sold out in France. I did purchase another Louis Vuitton piece on my last day, but it only fueled my desire for the Onthego.

The Resale Market Reality

Given the difficulty of finding the Onthego in boutiques or online, I turned to the resale market—a place where I've previously found great deals. However, because the Onthego is a limited edition and one of the hottest bags of Summer 2019, resale prices have skyrocketed. Reputable resale sites list it for an average of $4,000, nearly double the retail price of $2,440 (which was raised from $2,340 in June).
