When the runway unveiled a staggering array of exquisite handbags, it was hard to know where to focus first. After the unexpected tribal tassels of last season, who could have predicted that Marc Jacobs would deliver such a delicate, feminine, and utilitarian collection for Louis Vuitton? This season, he whisked us back to 1940s France, with tea-length tweed suits, cinched waists, and bust-hugging dirndl skirts. The aesthetic conjured images of the French farm girls from the opening scenes of Inglourious Basterds, but elevated with a distinctly upscale Parisian flair. It was a stunning collection, made even more so by the abundance of meticulously detailed, traditionally crafted handbags in every conceivable material: crocodile, ostrich, leather, fur, lace, satin, beads – you name it.

Nearly all the bags were inventive reinterpretations of the iconic Speedy silhouette, with a few wristlets adding variety. Many devoted Vuitton admirers had lamented the perceived departure from the house's classic traditions – for them, this collection is a radiant ray of sunshine straight from handbag heaven.
