Chanel Debuts German-Inspired Metiers D'Art 2018 Handbags

If you’ve seen Chanel handbag collections before, I’m not about to show you anything that will stun you, but if you like Chanel bags, then you’ll probably be pretty happy with what designer Karl Lagerfeld has whipped up this time. That’s an accurate summation of most Chanel shows, probably, but it seems especially apt for Chanel Metiers d’Art 2018, which features the brand’s bags interpreted through the lens of their designer’s hometown.

The collection is Lagerfeld at his most Lagerfeldian, with lots of black and plenty of military-inspired elements. The bags, though, retained their quintessential Chanel finishes, with the brand’s now-traditional mix of day bags and novelty evening clutches. Several of said clutches looked like mini Chanel shipping containers to me, but I’m not sure that’s what they were meant to evoke. If they are, indeed, miniature shipping containers, they’re my favorite Chanel clutches in a while. Chanel’s Metiers d’Art collections take the place of pre-fall, so you can expect to see this line in stores in about six months.

Check out all the bags from the collection below.
