Chanel Goes Underground For Métiers D’Art 2026

Since 2002, Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collections have brought together an array of experts who are masters in their field, all united to create a collection that celebrates the incredible skills of Chanel’s artisans.

No detail is left untouched, from the most minor intricacies to the largest; the creation of Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection unites embroiderers, feather workers, goldsmiths, pleaters, shoemakers, milliners, and more.

Of course, this means that the collection features some of the most artful elements and jaw-dropping details of any Chanel collection. This year, with Matthieu Blazy making his Métiers d’Art debut, the collection is as ornate as ever. Still, in a way that feels modern, wearable, and entirely new—and it all started with a journey to the New York City Subway.

Blazy’s Modern Take on Chanel Heritage

When the train pulled into the MTA’s Bowery station, the doors opened to reveal the latest from Blazy—his second showing as Creative Director of Chanel. True to the many archetypes that frequent the New York City subway, the looks offered a little bit of everything.

Elevated takes on denim and officewear gave way to ornate evening wear and a bevy of matching separates. Each look tells its own story, like a set that looks like denim at first glance, but upon further inspection is actually silk—lingerie denim—as Chanel calls it, finished with detailed embroidery.

Inspiration spans decades, from 1920s flapper-esque silhouettes to the bias-cut slips of the ’30s and 2020s modernism. Blazy expertly travels through time, all in a beautiful palette of bold reds, bright yellows, oranges, and neutrals alike. Plus, there was leopard! Lots of it!

The Bags: Whimsy, Craft, and New Classics

The bags too, offer a little bit of everything (though Vogue Runway and Chanel have yet to release full sets of detail images). There are oversized clutches which feel fresh and contemporary as well as many new takes on the iconic Chanel flap.

For those who love novelty, there were plenty of whimsical moments, including jeweled minaudières that paid homage to New York, such as one shaped like an apple and another in the form of a takeaway coffee cup. Animal-inspired Flap Bags offer a hint of the mystical, fitted with gold feet and animal heads.

Animal print extended to the bags as well—there was a maxi leopard jacquard flap bag and an adorable pony hair cheetah Chanel 25. Suede, too, continued to rule this season on flap bags and new shapes alike. View more from Chanel Métiers d’Art 2026 below.
